Eligible certification holders may have a 2026 maintenance pathway using curated Skill Builder training/labs; eligibility and timing depend on the credential.
Eligible associate, expert, and specialty certifications renew annually through a free online assessment in the renewal window; Fundamentals credentials do not expire.
Current CE target for Associate-level recertification is 30 credits; certification-specific pathways should be checked with Cisco.

Understand the requirement
AWS introduced an additional maintenance option in June 2026 for eligible certification holders using curated Skill Builder training and labs.
For the new eligible maintenance path, timing near expiration matters; verify your credential’s eligibility and current maintenance window in AWS Certification.
Eligible Microsoft role-based and specialty certifications can be renewed through a free online assessment during the six months before expiration.
Microsoft states that Fundamentals certifications do not expire, unlike eligible role-based and specialty certifications that renew on a cycle.
Cisco’s current CE targets increase by certification level, from Practitioner through Associate, Specialist, Professional, and Expert.
If a Cisco certification expires, ordinary recertification options change and you generally need to complete the certification process again. Verify the current policy before acting.
SHRM currently requires 60 Professional Development Credits during a three-year recertification cycle for SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP.
