AWS introduced an additional maintenance option in June 2026 for eligible certification holders using curated Skill Builder training and labs.
For the new eligible maintenance path, timing near expiration matters; verify your credential’s eligibility and current maintenance window in AWS Certification.
Eligible Microsoft role-based and specialty certifications can be renewed through a free online assessment during the six months before expiration.
Microsoft states that Fundamentals certifications do not expire, unlike eligible role-based and specialty certifications that renew on a cycle.
Cisco’s current CE targets increase by certification level, from Practitioner through Associate, Specialist, Professional, and Expert.
If a Cisco certification expires, ordinary recertification options change and you generally need to complete the certification process again. Verify the current policy before acting.
SHRM currently requires 60 Professional Development Credits during a three-year recertification cycle for SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP.
Before the end of a SHRM cycle, confirm your PDC total, activity eligibility, reporting records, and recertification submission status.
HRCI recertification totals and specialty-credit requirements differ across aPHR, PHR, PHRca, SPHR, GPHR, and other credentials.
SPHR recertification includes a Business-credit subrequirement inside the overall HRCI credit total.
PHRca includes a California-specific recertification-credit component inside the total requirement.
ISC2 currently uses a 120-CPE three-year maintenance total for CISSP, alongside current category, reporting, and annual maintenance requirements.
ISC2 currently uses a 90-CPE three-year maintenance total for CCSP, with activity eligibility and reporting governed by the current ISC2 CPE policy.
ISC2 currently uses a 60-CPE three-year maintenance total for SSCP, with activity eligibility and reporting governed by the current ISC2 CPE policy.
Salesforce publishes release-specific maintenance requirements; Winter ’26 maintenance currently has a December 4, 2026 deadline for applicable credentials.
Major ISACA certifications such as CISA, CISM and CRISC currently require at least 20 CPE hours each calendar year and 120 CPE hours over a three-year reporting period.
ISACA has announced CPE policy changes effective January 1, 2027 while retaining the 120-CPE three-year total; use the policy that applies to your actual reporting period rather than mixing future rules into an earlier cycle.
ISACA can allow the same relevant CPE activity to support multiple ISACA certifications when the activity is applicable to each credential, but the activity must still satisfy the current rules for every certification to which it is applied.
GIAC currently provides a certification-renewal route based on earning 36 CPEs during the four-year certification period, with activity-specific caps and documentation rules that matter in addition to the total.
GIAC currently allows relevant work experience to contribute one CPE per month, up to 12 CPEs per renewal, so work experience alone cannot supply the entire 36-CPE renewal target.
ISC2 Group A CPEs relate to the domains of the certification, while Group B covers broader professional development; the allowed mix depends on the credential and CC currently uses Group A only.
ISC2 currently allows required CPE activities to be earned and submitted no later than 90 days after the certification expiration date, but the grace period does not remove the certification-maintenance obligations or make indefinite late reporting acceptable.
HRCI currently requires certificants to fulfill one Ethics credit as part of the overall recertification-credit requirement, so the ethics component should be tracked separately even when the total credit target has been reached.
HRCI currently offers qualifying active certificants an optional carryover program for surplus recertification credits submitted beyond the normal required total, subject to the current HRCI carryover rules and limits.
