AWS introduced an additional open-beta Skill Builder maintenance route on June 23, 2026 for supported certifications when they are within 90 days of expiration.
Eligibility starts near expiration
AWS says the training/lab pathway becomes available when a supported certification is within 90 days of expiration. The credential must still be active and supported by the maintenance experience.
The 2026 beta uses points and practical activities
At launch, AWS states 500 points plus at least one practical activity for supported Associate-level certifications and 700 points plus at least two practical activities for supported Professional-level certifications.
The extension date differs from some renewal systems
AWS says successful completion extends the certification by one year from the maintenance completion date. Confirm that date in your AWS Certification account after finishing.
