SHRM currently provides a recertification route in which SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP holders earn 60 Professional Development Credits (PDCs) during a three-year recertification cycle.
Cycle end date and expiration are not the same thing
SHRM says the recertification cycle ends on the last day of the holder’s birth month in year three. A 60-day grace period follows; completing/submitting during that period carries the applicable late fee, and the credential can be revoked if recertification is not completed by the end of the grace period.
Earning 60 PDCs is not the final click
PDCs need to be entered/tracked in the certification portal and the completed recertification record must be submitted with the applicable processing fee. Keep activity dates inside the cycle and retain documentation.
There is also an exam route
SHRM also describes recertification by retaking the current-level certification exam in the final year of the cycle. Because failing that exam has significant consequences, use SHRM’s current instructions before choosing that path.
