Microsoft states that Fundamentals certifications do not expire. That is different from eligible associate, expert, and specialty certifications, which use annual renewal.
Fundamentals: no expiration
You do not need the annual renewal assessment for Microsoft Fundamentals credentials under the current Microsoft renewal policy.
Eligible role-based/specialty certifications
Microsoft currently provides a free renewal assessment during a six-month eligibility window before expiration. Passing extends the certification one year from its existing expiration date.
Check the credential profile
Use Microsoft Learn’s certification profile to see whether your specific credential is eligible and when its renewal window opens rather than assuming every Microsoft certification follows the same rule.
