Who this applies to
Microsoft currently uses annual renewal for eligible associate, expert, and specialty certifications. Fundamentals certifications do not expire and therefore do not use this renewal-window workflow.
Renewal opens six months before expiration
The renewal assessment is available within the six-month window before expiration. Passing it extends the certification for one year from the current expiration date under Microsoft’s current policy.
Do not wait for the last day
The assessment can be retaken while the certification remains eligible, but expiration changes the available path. Use the certification dashboard’s actual date and allow time for another attempt if needed.
