Why PE Continuing Education Requirements Differ by State

Engineering licensure is jurisdiction-based, so renewal periods, PDH totals, ethics requirements, deadlines, and accepted activities differ.

State rules control

Use the engineering licensing board for each state you hold. Total PDHs, ethics/state-law requirements, carryover, exemptions, accepted activities, and renewal periods can differ.

Track overlap deliberately

For multi-state practice, record the same course once but mark eligibility separately for every state rather than assuming a universal PDH value.

Keep audit evidence

Store the completion certificate, course description, provider, date, credit amount, and any board-specific evidence required by the jurisdictions you maintain.
